“To all of you Realtors who think you are techies – Listen to me.  I signed up for the ePRO class taught by Monica Neubauer and hosted by WCAR.  I thought it was going to be just a confirmation that I was pretty sharp, a pat on the back, and here is your lapel pin.  Well… that was not the case. 
 
You see I work for a homebuilder in a model home and I have always prided myself on staying focused on work and not being distracted by time-wasting websites like Facebook, YouTube, and blogblogblog.  I get to work early, maximize my personal online marketing efforts with MLS, eBlasts, and do very well.
 
I kinda looked down on agents who seemed to spend all this time on the social media “thing”.  In retrospect I honestly thought these sites were just a flash in the pan – I know – ostrich meet sand!  As Monica ran through all of the ways that I was missing out on the discussions going on around me I realized that I had been a crabby old man yelling at the kids to turn down that darn rock-n-roll! 
 
The simple fact is the old rules of marketing don’t work – well, that’s not entirely true.  They just don’t work as well as they used to.  The attention of the buyers has shifted.  We have been used to finding customers/clients at the local drugstore but now they are at drugstore.com!
 
Honestly, the class made my head swim a bit and I am not a novice to the tech side of things.  My iPad2 can beat up yours and my iPhone4 will take a video of it!  But as Monica gave the gentle shove in the back she focused me on “PROGRESS”.  I took the class 5 days ago and I have started to use my Facebook account (had one for over a year but never did anything on it), set up my profile on Linkedin, Trulia, Zillow, and Twitter and I am making “PROGRESS”. 
 
If you are thinking about getting ePRO certified – stop thinking and register.  You will have a great experience at WCAR’s educational facility and if you have Monica as the instructor you will be blessed by a real human being encouraging you to embrace the chaos and be friendly and social.
